Joseph L. DeFelice, age 80 of Westport, the beloved husband of Lorraine (Klarmann) DeFelice, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. Born in Stamford to the late Daniel and Josephine (Pia) DeFelice, he was a lifelong area resident.
Joe was a Design Engineer and retired from FAG Bearings Corp. (Norma Hoffman) in 1994. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. Joe was a true outdoorsman and handy in many fashions. He was a talented carpenter and enjoyed woodworking and restoration projects. He also was instrumental in the construction and finishing of the family's beloved cabin in the Catskills. Joe was a great athlete and played basketball and softball for the company teams; he was an avid golfer and even shot a hole in one; and he loved to fish, whether in salt or fresh water. Joe was also a gamer in pheasant hunting and trained his dogs to participate with him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Joseph V. DeFelice and his wife, Eileen of Trumbull, Karen DeFelice - During and her husband, William of Fairfield and David DeFelice and his wife, Catherine of Hockessin, DE. He will also be missed by his brothers, Anthony DeFelice of Florida and Victor DeFelice and his wife, Janet of Stamford; his sister, Eileen Gonza and her husband, Sal of Milford; his grandson, Dominic Joseph; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Daniel and Clara.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. directly at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave. in Westport. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center.
