Joseph Williams, age 99, entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 28, 2013. He was born in Swainsboro, Georgia on April 8, 1914. He was the son of the late Thomas and Hattie Williams.
Joseph attended the Emmanuel County Schools. He began his career as a farmer in Georgia. As a young man he moved to Florida to pursue a career as waiter and a chef. During his middle years he moved to Chester, Pennsylvania, and worked for a number of different local manufacturing companies. During his later years he moved to Norwalk, Connecticut, and worked with his sister who owned Chatman's Grocery Store.
He was predeceased by his sisters Almeta Chatman and Ines Rhodman and a daughter Lucile Byrd.
He leaves to cherish his memories a sister Irene W. Maddox of Norwalk, CT; a daughter Betty Jones of CA; one granddaughter Dorothy Jones of GA; two grandsons Timothy Jones of Washington, DC and Henry Jones of CA; two nephews James Maddox of CA and Winston Maddox of NJ; a niece Bonita Maddox of CT; three great-grandsons and one great-great grandson, two great nieces and two great nephews.
Joseph was a member of Bethel AME Church in Norwalk, CT. A memorial service will be held at Bethel AME Church on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 12:00 noon, 19 Academy Street, Norwalk, CT, Dr. Richard Wesley Clarke.
