Lawrence J. Shortell, Sr.
Resident of Wilton
Lawrence J. Shortell, Sr., age 93, of Wilton, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, at the CT Hospice in Branford. He was the loving husband of Helen Morgan Shortell. Larry was born on June 5, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Lawrence and Julia Kennedy Shortell. He was a retired carpenter, having worked for the NY Carpenter's Union and the CT Carpenter's Union. After his retirement he worked for several years as a school bus driver in Wilton. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country during WW II, and was a life member of the Norwalk VFW. Larry loved his family, life and music. He enjoyed skiing and the outdoors and was a former member of the Conservation Corps.
In addition to his wife Helen, Larry is survived by his children Lawrence J. Shortell, Jr. of Wilton and Kathleen Bienapfl of Portland, OR, his granddaughter Claire Bienapfl, several nieces and nephews including Michael and Larry Allen, and Roman Mrozinski. He was also predeceased by his siblings James Shortell, Agnes Campos and Margaret Pawloski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 11 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk. Larry's family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-6 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.
