Lori Redmer Obituary

Lori Jasperse Redmer
Resident of Westport
Lori Jasperse Redmer, 46, of Westport, CT, daughter of Lois and Paul Jasperse, wife of Alan, mother of Brooke, Claire, and Sloane, passed away on Saturday, August 17. She fought a valiant battle with cancer for more than three years, and inspired all who knew her.
Lori was born in Dearborn, Michigan. She graduated from Dearborn Christian School and Dearborn High School. She went on to earn a BBA from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Lori utilized her extensive marketing skills in diverse corporations such as Xerox and Conde Nast. She also held leadership roles at non-profit organizations including Save the Children, where she was Associate Vice President of Global Corporate Partnerships. In that capacity, Lori raised substantial charitable revenue through partnerships with the world's top corporations. Most recently Lori served as the Executive Director of the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, a cause close to her heart and to all of ours. Wherever she served, her work was focused on change efforts which made a difference to people around the globe.
Lori's Christian faith was strong and deep. At the time of her death, she was pursuing an advanced degree in theology at Hartford Seminary, and she was recently selected to attend the upcoming 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches in the Republic of Korea. She looked forward to developing her work on the idea of a second Reformation, in which all faiths are acknowledged as ways toward the same truth. Closer to home, she and Al served as co-chairs of the 2012-2013 “Live Different, Give Different” stewardship campaign at Green's Farms Church. The whole family participated in the Gillespie Center Ministry. Her commitment to this wonderful congregation was also demonstrated by her service on the most recent ministerial search committee. The Covenant Group they belong to has been a source of joy and support during good times and bad.
Lori viewed life as an adventure. Her extended family treasures the memories of the Tuscan vacation which she planned and they all enjoyed the month before her death. She inspired the less adventuresome to try something new, whether it be climbing the peaks of the Adirondacks, taking in the sites of the great American Southwest, or travelling to far away places. Lori was a quintessential traveler for both business and pleasure, but some of the most special trips were the ones she took with her daughters. Recent “Just Mom and Me” trips took Lori and her daughters to New York, England, and Switzerland. Other trips focused on sports activities, including the Kiawah Marathon which Lori completed in 2010 following 8 months of cancer treatment. Everyone cheered her strong finish.
Lori is also survived by her brother, Carl Jasperse, of Grand Ledge, MI; Judi Jasperse of Grand Rapids Michigan; sisters Linda Jasperse of Bennington, VT and Carol (Bob) Lautenbach of Grand Rapids, MI; and parents-in-law Rudy and Carol Redmer of Poinciana, FL. Beloved nieces and nephews are Allison (Dan, sons Ian and Grayson), Ryan (Jess) and Rebecca Jasperse, and Matthew, Emily, Kate (Todd, daughter Elia) and Drew Lautenbach. Lori was encouraged and supported by many friends and a group of cancer survivors who met during chemotherapy treatments; these Sole Sisters were her best medicine during the last years.
Her extended network of family and friends thank the congregation of Green's Farms Church, especially the Rev. Jeffrey Rider and the Rev. John Twiname, for prayers and support. We also thank the dedicated staff of the Whittingham Cancer Center and Smilow Center at Norwalk Hospital for their healing graces.
A celebration of Lori's life will be held on Thursday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Green's Farms. The family will receive visitors in the Church Parlor on Wednesday, August 21 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Green's Farms Church outreach, the Adirondack Mountain Club, or the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.

My dear friend Lori: You shared with me the ups and downs of your cancer and pain, and you always remained optimistic (I think for the love of your husband and children). You are loved and will remain in my thoughts. Blessings to you and your family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
