Resident of Norwalk
Louis Del Vecchio, 89, of Norwalk, passed away suddenly on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Lou was born in Stamford on March 3, 1924 to the late Ralph and Madeline Compolattaro Del Vecchio.
Louis served in the US Army during World War II where he was stationed in Guam. Upon his return to Stamford he married his wife Patricia “Patty” Lane in 1948. Lou worked for Bunker Ramo of Shelton as a Truck Driver and Equipment Repair Coordinator for over forty years before retiring in 1986. He was an accomplished dancer along with his wife. Lou loved his family never missing a family event, especially his grandchildren's sports. “He meant a lot to a lot of people”, but truly cared for family and friends in return. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan and contributed to their championships. Lou loved the springtime, where he enjoyed the outdoors especially gardening and long walks.
Louis is survived by his sons; Robert L. Del Vecchio and his wife Jean of Norwalk, Gary Del Vecchio and his wife Cindy of Surprise, AZ and Richard L. Del Vecchio and Jennifer Larsen of Stratford. His grandchildren, Adam Del Vecchio and his wife Jody and their children; Zak and Josh of Long Beach, CA, Sara Del Vecchio Ashworth and her husband Doug of Canton, MA, Allyson Del Vecchio and Sean Liggins of Mesa, AZ, Christopher Del Vecchio and his fiancé Ellen Pittoni of Stamford, Matthew Del Vecchio and his wife Brenda and their children; Charlotte and Paxton of Surprise, AZ. A sister Louise Sierpina of Stamford, beloved cousins; Madeline and Joe Longo of Stamford, sisters-in-law; Marie Jara of New Canaan and Irene Curry of Stamford. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents; Louis was predeceased by his wife Patricia of fifty four years in 2003 and two brothers; Sal Del Vecchio and Frank “Snooky” Del Vecchio.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT at 8:40AM on Monday April 29, 2013 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT at 9:30AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday April 28, 2013 from 2:00 to 6:00PM.
