Patti Jane Murphy Birchard of Norwalk, died peacefully in her home on Monday February 11, 2013. Patti was 75 years young.
Patti was the wife of the late Douglas James Birchard, best friend and love of her life, and daughter of the late Peter J. and Eleanor N. Murphy.
Born in Toledo Ohio, as a teenager Patti moved with her family to Connecticut. A graduate of Norwalk High School, Patti then attended the University of Connecticut.
Married for 55 years, Patti and Doug raised their family on Bell Island in the Rowayton section of Norwalk.
Working various jobs in Norwalk as a medical receptionist, her most memorable years were spent in Dr. Tracey's Office on East Avenue. Patti also worked at the Top Drawer Dress shop owned by her late mother Eleanor Murphy.
Patti's greatest accomplishment was being a beloved mother of 5, a deeply loved grandmother of 12, and great grandmother of 2.
She is survived by her children Gary L. Birchard, Robert J. Birchard and his wife Donna (Raymond), Lori A. Ungemack, Wendy J. Gaipa and her husband Thomas, and Suellan P. Birchard. In addition to her children she is survived by her grandchildren Robert M. Birchard, Corrie Angell and her husband Mikel, Emily Ungemack, Timothy Gaipa, Christopher Ungemack, Daniel Gaipa, Kimberly Birchard, Eliza Ungemack, Elizabeth Birchard, Casey Gaipa, Jessica Birchard, and Samantha Birchard also known as The B.U.G. Club. And her great-grandchildren Christopher Angell and Emma Angell.
Patti is survived by her sister Susan Cundari of Norwalk and predeceased by her sister Jodelle O'Brien.
Patti is deeply missed by her lap companion Bella.
Patti, whose love for the water was only surpassed by her love for Doug and her family, will always be remembered for the smile on her face and her beautiful blue eyes shining on a warm summers day, which will reflect in our hearts forever.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
