Alice H. Safir passed away on May 13, 2014 at home. She was the widow of Edwin Safir.
Born January 30, 1919, in Young America, Minnesota, daughter of the late Alma and Frederick Dittmar, Mrs. Safir graduated St. Mary's School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN and worked as a pediatric nurse.
Enlisting in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1943, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and served in the European Theatre of Operations. Mrs. Safir was stationed in England and briefly in Verdon, France with the 124th General Hospital. She served on the hospital's Women's Board, and the board's Treasure House.
Survivors include her children Maryanne Michon of Ipswich, MA, Edwin T. Safir and his wife Carolyne of Greenland, NH, Thomas Safir and his wife Linda of Oakland, CA, Jane Kennedy and her husband Charles of Butler, PA; grandchildren Melissa Rouette, Christopher Michon, Nicholas Safir, Andrew Safir, Blaire Safir, Elizabeth Safir, Jackson Kennedy and two great grandsons Jacob Rouette and Oliver Michon.
Services will take place Friday, May 16th at 11:00 am in Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue. The Reverend Nicholas Lang, Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church on the Green, will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call on the family Friday morning from 9:30 am until the service starts at 11:00 am.
