Tjerk “Jerry” Zwart, Jr.
Lifelong Stamford Resident
Tjerk “Jerry” Zwart, Jr., 79, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford, on June 22, 1935 to the late Tjerk J. and Elizabeth Romano Zwart, Sr.
Jerry was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Army. He was employed as a Prototype Mechanic in the Experimental Dept. of Con Diesel of CT for thirty years before his retirement. Jerry will always be remembered as a caring and loving person who was there for his family and neighbors. He also enjoyed his trips to his home in Arizona with his family and playing cards.
He is survived by his devoted sisters Joan Wofsey and Gail Macari of Stamford; his brother-in-law Robert Pekar and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his sister Betty Lou Pekar and two brothers-in-law Gerald Wofsey and Domenick Macari.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Bridget of Ireland RC Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's RC Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the Zwart family with the arrangements.
