Doris Karen (Smith) Duda passed away on December 30th, 2012 at her most recent home at Creamery Brook Retirement Village in Brooklyn, CT.
Doris was born September 21, 1924 and grew up in Darien, Connecticut. When she became eligible after graduating from Darien High School in 1941, Doris was one of the first females to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and serve her country during World War II. After her tour of duty, Doris attended the Traphagen School of Fashion in NYC. After subsequently attending a Connecticut cosmetology school, Doris and her sister Dolly opened the Cinderella Beauty Parlor in downtown Rowayton, CT. In May 1950, Doris married one of her kindergarten classmates, Leonard W. Duda. Doris and Len's 62 year marriage produced two sons, Leonard Jr. and Frederick, and eventually 5 grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leonard W. Duda, Sr. and their two sons and daughters-in-law; Leonard W. Duda, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Brunswick, ME and Frederick L. Duda and his wife Paula of Killingly, CT. Doris also leaves her 5 cherished grandsons; David, Steven, Alan, Erik, & Kirk. Doris was predeceased by her sister Gertrude Dolly Campert of Woodstock, CT.
There will be no public services and internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
