Stephen was a graduate of New Canaan High School Class of 1955. His academic achievements and his football ability earned him college scholarship opportunities; however, he chose employment in the family business, John B. Sheridan and Son Plumbing and Heating. Stephen was licensed in his trade before he earned a drivers' license. He became a union member in 1970 and was a member of Local 311, 173, and 777 of CT, serving a term as President.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had a great passion for horses and rode as a young man for New Canaan Mounted Troop.
Mr. Sheridan leaves his son Stephen P. Sheridan, Jr., of New Canaan, his daughter Caroline Brooke Sheridan of Berthoud, CO; his good friend, Sheila Nicholson of New Port Richey, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Brenda Lahey Sheridan; his daughter, Lisa Gray Sheridan; his siblings: John Jr., Daniel, William, Edmund, Ann, and Peter. He also leaves his former wife Dorothy Hemmings-Bassett of Cape Cod.
Visitation will be Thursday, 4-7pm at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St, New Canaan, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, 10am at St. Aloysius Church, with the interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk, CT.
