Vytas Matthew Valiusaitis

Vytas Matthew Valiusaitis, age 48, of Bridgeport, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, May 14. Born in Stamford on January 31, 1965, he was the son of Suzette Watson Gruner of Plainville, CT and Vidmantas Valiusaitis of Sun City Center, FL. Vytas matriculated through the Newtown school system and was currently enrolled at Housatonic Community College, where he was studying to begin a new career in Behavioral Science, working in addiction recovery.
Vytas proudly served the country he loved in the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division from 1985 to 1988 where his earlier career of truck driving began. Vytas was an accomplished musician and playing and writing music was a passion. Some knew him as "Old V", the fisherman. Some knew him as a good golfer. Most knew his giving spirit came from an enduring love for his God. We all knew his deep love and pride was for his son Benjamin.
In addition to his parents, Vytas is survived by his son Benjamin Walker Valiusaitis of Easley, SC; sister Audra Valliere and her husband Eric of Rocky Hill, and sister Alina McAleese and her husband Eddie of Norwalk; his maternal grandmother Virginia Russo of Cape Coral, FL and nieces Jenna, Jacqueline, Ciara, and nephews Michael and Timothy.
On Sunday, May 19, at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, the family will have a memorial service at 2PM and receive friends from 2-4PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 20 at 10:00AM at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Vytas' memory may be made to Recovery Network of Programs, 2 Trap Falls Rd., Shelton, CT 06484 or to the Wounded Warrior Program. For directions or to leave an online condolence please go to www.magnerfuneralhome.com or call (203) 866-5553.
