Alfred Alberts Obituary
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 7 at Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Alfred A. Alberts, the son of Charlie and Hilway (Sasiff) Alberts, was born at Deirminus, Lebanon on Nov. 7, 1922 and died in Aurora on June 30, 2010, at the age of 87.
His father came over from Lebanon and settled in Gothenburg before sending for his wife and son in 1926, when Alf was three years old. Alf graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1940. Alf was married to Cleta Hunter on Jan. 19, 1947, at Gothenburg. They moved to a farm northwest of Hampton where they farmed for 43 years. They moved into Hampton in 1996. Due to his Macular Degeneration, Alf has been at Memorial Community Care for the past several years.
Alf won a 10-day trip to Europe in 1970 for having the best soybean yield in the state of Nebraska. He also won the Aurora Mapmaker Award in 1971 for this accomplishment. Alf enjoyed fishing and had taken several trips to Canada to fish. His other passion was playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny Alberts.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cleta Alberts of Aurora; two sons, Michael (Janet) Alberts of Marquette and Dan (Beth) Alberts of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Hillary Alberts, Molly (Luke) Jensen, Jeff (Katrina) Glinsmann, Rick (Tessa) Glinsmann and Tammie (Ryan) Bamesberger and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, George (Rosemary) Alberts, Jesse Alberts and Emil (Lois) Alberts, all of Gothenburg and a sister, Bessie (Tony) Shada of Kearney.
