THE WOODLANDS,Texas - Ella May (Britt) Grasso, 74, of The Woodlands, Texas, died Dec. 3, 2012, at The Woodlands Health Care Center surrounded by her children.

She was cremated and requested that no funeral service be held. Instead, as Ella wished, her children and grandchildren will gather at a future time to have a family reunion, share memories of her life and legacy, and scatter her ashes on a beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030. Or, donations can be made online at www.mdanderson.org/gifts/. The family requests that donations be designated for Stem Cell research.

Ella was born Aug. 24, 1938, to Charles Robert and Ella May (Crider) Britt in Junction City, Kan. She grew up on a farm outside of Junction City and moved into town with her family as a teenager. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1956.

She was married to Ray Valencia in Junction City in 1959, at St. Xavier's Catholic Church. They were married for 21 years and blessed with five children, David Ramon, Mark Alan, Bryan Joseph, Adam Charles, and Rebecca (Becky) Teresa.

In 1982, she was married to Theodore (Ted) Grasso in Grand Island. Ella worked at a number of jobs throughout her lifetime. Some of them include the Junction City Water Department, JC Penney, Jack & Jill Grocery Store, and Linda's Hallmark. She always gave her best and formed many lifelong friendships with her coworkers.

All who knew and loved Ella, know that she had particular talents for decorating, crafts, and sewing. She dearly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends visiting, shopping, dining, or just being together. Her granddaughters have been especially blessed with some of the most beautiful and intricate, hand crafted and sewn doll clothes any girl could wish for.

Also, she had a lifelong hobby of collecting all sorts of seashells that began as a young girl. One of her uncles gave her a small collection of shells that kicked off a journey to learn and collect more. She was extremely knowledgeable about the origins of various seashells ranging from the common to the rare. Her family has always considered this a wonderful accomplishment for a farm girl who lived her entire life landlocked in the central US. She only experienced a limited number of occasions to visit oceans and beaches and savored every minute from each one of those trips.

She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest son, David.

Ella is survived by her son, Mark Valencia of Raytown, Mo., and his children, Morgan and Josiah; her son and daughter in-law, Bryan and Sharee (Sha) Valencia of The Woodlands, Texas and their children, Joseph, Jackson, Reid and Riley; her son and daughter in-law, Adam and Tami Valencia of The Woodlands, Texas and their children, Abby, Evan, Katie, Georgia and Luke; her daughter and son in-law, Rebecca (Becky) and Nick Maggiore, of Renton, Wash., and their children, Anisa and Ethan; and her brother, Charles Robert Britt, Jr.
