DALLAS - Lloyd J. Wheeler, 83, of Dallas, Texas, died Saturday, March 13, 2010.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Jay Vetter will officiate.

Mr. Wheeler was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Carlos, Minn., to Lloyd (Ted) and Margaret Wheeler.

He married Maybelle Lundgren Oct. 12, 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Maybelle; two sons, Bruce Wheeler of Albany, Ore., and Byron Wheeler of Grand Island; one daughter, Debbie Wackel of Dallas; and four grandchildren.

Lloyd grew up and attended school in Minnesota. He joined his father in the car business in Clarissa, Minn. In 1955, he moved to Grand Island where he started the first Wheelers' Farm Supply Store. Wheelers' became one of the largest farm store chains and was sold in 1975 to the Peavey (ConAgra) Co.

During his retirement, Lloyd enjoyed traveling to Arizona where he was a golf enthusiast, and back to his home state of Minnesota to fish walleye. In 2005, he relocated to Dallas.

He was a member of the Navy, YMCA, Stuhr Museum and the Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
