Maynard Schudel Obituary

NORTH LOUP -- Maynard Gene Schudel, 88, of rural North Loup died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Valley View Living Center in Ord.

Mr. Schudel's wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mira Valley Evangelical United Methodist Church south of Ord. The Rev. Jeff Wulf will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup.

Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schudel was born June 1, 1923, on the family farm in the Mira Valley community of Valley County to Edwin O. and Alice R. (Hanke) Schudel.

He attended Barker School through the 10th grade and graduated from North Loup High School in 1940.

Maynard lived his entire life on the family farmstead that he was born on. He farmed and raised hogs and dairy cattle.

On Feb. 7, 1947, Maynard was united in marriage to Margaret Armold at the Salem Fish Creek Church at Scotia. The couple resided on the farm their entire married lives.

Maynard had a special love for music and singing. He sang with the A Cappella Fellows in the '50s and recently the Valley Harmonizers. He was a member of the Mira Valley Evangelical United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He belonged to the North Loup Lions Club and Masons. Maynard was a devoted blood donor. He also enjoyed reading.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of North Loup; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Yolanda Schudel of North Loup and Matthew Schudel and wife, Robin Levin, of Takoma Park, Md.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Gretchen and Bill Peters of Gering and Emily and Barney Wegener of Bloomfield, N.M.; five grandchildren and their spouses, John and Amy Schudel, Benjamin Schudel, Katharine Schudel, Laura and James Parfrey, and Matthew Wegener and wife, Catherine McIntyre; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Lois Schudel of Corvallis, Ore.; and a sister, Mavis Jeffres of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Daniel Schudel; and a sister, Dorothy.

Memorials are suggested to the Mira Valley Evangelical United Methodist Church or the Valley Harmonizers Scholarship Fund.

Dear Schudel Family, My deepest sympathy to you all. Maynard was a true gem. He was such a caring and friendly person. He always had a way of making you laugh. I always enjoyed our visits. The Lord's choir has truly gained a beautiful voice.
