Frances Gage Obituary

Gage, Frances I.

Lansing: Frances I. Gage, 86, of Lansing, New York, died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. Frances was born October 7, 1925 to the late Robert A. Irvine and Alice Walrath Irvine in Jasper, NY. She graduated from Jasper Central School in 1943. She attended State University of New York at Geneseo, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education in 1946. After graduation, Fran taught third grade in Greenwood, NY. She subsequently married and joined her husband in Troy, NY, where he was a student of Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Over the years they have lived in Schenectady NY, Owensboro KY, Syracuse NY, Topsfield MA, Weston MA, and Chestnut Hill MA.

After retirement, Fran and her husband returned to the Finger Lakes area of New York, and built a home in Lansing. Her avocations included flower gardening, quilting, sewing, reading, and walking. She will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife and mother. Fran is survived by her husband of 65 years, George H. Gage of Lansing; two daughters, Betsey Gage LaBreche of Del Mar, California and Nancy Gage Mandeville of Sherman, Connecticut; one son, James George Gage of Sherburne, NY; and five grandchildren, Benjamin, Christopher, Elizabeth, William, and Allison; two sisters, Phyllis Mayo and Donna Dennis, both of Jasper, NY also survive her. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to a charity of choice.
