R. Miller Obituary

Miller, R. Michael "Mickey"

R. Michael "Mickey" Miller, 56, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY. He was born in Orange, CA, son of the late Sylvania Furey Miller and James Miller. Mickey grew up in Ithaca and was always proud to have spent his childhood in the Fall Creek neighborhood. In 1983 he purchased his home on Taughannock Blvd. where he lived for many years. He was employed at Borg Warner for 32 years and for the past several years had worked at Stork H & E. He valued his job and always had a strong work ethic. Mickey was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for camping, hunting, fishing and hiking. Mickey is survived by his daughter, Bambi Lott; granddaughter, Hayden Van Riper and Kye Loveless. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Tamia Miller. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mickey Miller Outdoor Fund, c/o Scott Albanese, Tompkins Trust Co., The Commons, Ithaca, NY 14850. The hope is that the fund will be used to place a bench in Mickey's memory near the Ithaca Falls so others can enjoy the area as much as he did. Arrangements are by the Bangs Funeral Home.

So sad to hear of Miller's passing. I have so many wonderful, fun memories of working with him at Borg Warner. He worked harder than anyone I ever saw. He also played harder than anyone too. I got a lot of good material from him for cartoons while at Borg. Of course he was in most of them. He was a true character. He made that mundane place lively, entertaining and fun. He sure did enjoy people, even and especially the crazy ones. I still have most of those cartoons from Borg...I'll have to pull them out and remember Miller with some good laughter. RIP

So saddened to hear of Mickey's passing. Although we lost touch over the years, I have many fond memories of spending time with him growing up. He was so good to me as a kid. Memories include him taking me on motorcycle rides,(he even bought me a mini bike),getting me my first BB/Pellet gun, going to Steiger's meat market for massive steaks to grill out and listening to records (especially my favorite Van Halen) on his awesome stereo system. One of the most generous people I had ever known. He will be missed by many. Thanks again for everything. Rest in Peace my friend.

Miller, you have left a very big hole in all our hearts. Your infectious laugh will never again wake me up from a dead sleep only to have you make me laugh along with you when I wanted to throw a fit. I never got the chance to thank you for watching over my family for all these years. Especially my mother once we all left the nest. You were such a good man, you stayed by her side when even we weren't there and I cannot begin to express my gratitude for being her shoulder to cry on for so many years. You were such a good friend to her and know your passing has taken a piece of her heart away with you. We all considered you a member of our family, and even though you tried to remain neutral in our family squabbles I thank you for always having MY back no matter the issue. Some of my greatest teenage memories involve you and some craziness. Thank you for always being there, to make me laugh, to tell me I was being a jackass and to knock it off, and to reassure me that there was nothing wrong with me... that everyone else was just a bunch of crybabies :) You will forever hold a piece of my heart. The world doesn't know what they've lost. And just as you watched over all of us from just up the road, I know wherever you are now you haven't stopped. I love you from the bottom of my heart <3

I've known Mickey a long time since jr. high school.Alot of "good" memories, sad to know you are gone, yet never will you be forgotten.
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then shall you begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truely dance. R.I.P. My friend, R.I.P.

They say that the hour of death cannot be forecast, but when we say this we imagine that hour as placed in an obscure and distant future. It never occurs to us that it has any connection with the day already begun or that death could arrive this same afternoon, this afternoon which is so certain and which has every hour filled in advance.

I am confident that you are now with our creator.YOU will be in our hearts forever. I thank you Mick that I got to share part of your life's journey & together creating a life~ Bambi she is so much like you in so many ways, loves the outdoors, camping, hiking, campfires,All the things she learned from you at a very young age.
I remember you driving around in your Blue Truck with her car-seat in the middle, you loved to take her for rides & show her off.You ALWAYS made sure she had everything she needed (and then some)
So hard to imagine, that you were against having a child, UNTIL the 1st time you held her in your arms on Geneva St. I knew right then..you had never loved anything as much as you loved that baby girl, from that very moment Oct 1982..you would never be the same again !So glad I chose you !
You touched many lives and ALWAYS found the good in people, looking past their flaws, even if they did you wrong, you still had positive things to say about them.
You taught me a lot over the years, I got to taste $100.00 bottles of champagne , eat top choice cuts of steak 1/2" thick, bought our 1st house together, the finer things in life that i really never even knew existed until you !
You were a wonderful provider & dedicated to your job,& gave it your all, as you did with much of your life, living it to the fullest ...
Rest In peace Mick ~ and I know you will be watching over Bambi & Hayden, until we meet again...
