Wang, Ven-Woei "vw"
Wang, Ven-Woei "VW" Ven-Woei "VW" Wang - businessman, entrepreneur, husband, and father-extraordinaire - passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2014. VW, as he was known, was born and raised in Taiwan before moving to Ithaca in 1981 with only dreams and $1500 of borrowed money in his pocket. A true example of the American story, he worked tirelessly first as a Cornell doctoral student and than as a local businessman, co-founding a successful company, C-Mold, before moving on to China where he cofounded another company, CAXA. With his wife Irene, he also raised three children in Ithaca. Among the family, VW was known as an aficionado of blue shorts, BMW motorcycles (though he never got his own), gas station hot dogs, and Tom Hanks films. VW's greatest goal was to provide his children with the gift of education, and in that he succeeded, proudly supporting all three of children through college and graduate school. VW is survived by his wife of 33 years, Irene Wang; their three children, Shirley, Jessica, and Daniel; his son-in-law, Kevin; and his grandson, Rowan. He also is survived by his beloved mother, his sister Josie and brother David, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Taylor Room of the Statler Hotel from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., on Sunday December 14, 2014.
