Sewall, Colby Lynn Colby Lynn Sewall infant daughter of Chris Sewall and Brandy Saunders, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Remember Me Always Remember me always as I will never forget you I know you love me and I love you too Remember me always as I fly close and near As your angel baby there to catch every tear Remember me always tucked safe in your heart Through the happy moments too we will never be apart In addition to her mom and dad, Colby Lynn is also survived by her brother, Hunter James Sewall; her grandparents, Terry Hefferan, Jeffrey (Cindy) Saunders, Velvet (Don) Saunders and Mary Beth (Simon) Sewall; her aunt, Melinda (Derick) Sewall; her uncle, Adam Saunders and her great grandparents, Frank and Connie Dockstader. She was predeceased by her great grandparents, Lawrence (Shirley) Saunders and Cora (Jack) Belles. There will be no public services. Donations in Colby Lynn's memory may be made to Kaitlyn's Angels Memory Box Program, memoryboxes.org . Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Spero, Cecile Schiffer  
Spero, Cecile Schiffer Cecile (Ceil) Spero, 88, of Kendal at Ithaca, NY passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 after a difficult struggle with cancer. She was born October 10, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in New York City, the daughter of Allyn M. Schiffer and Belle (Solomon) Schiffer. She graduated high school (1944) from the Lincoln School of Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York where she met James S. Spero. On June 25, 1948 they were married and lived together happily until his passing in 2011. Ceil received a BA in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin in 1948 and a Master of Library Science from SUNY Albany in 1967 after many years of part-time study while raising her family. She was certified as a School Library Media Specialist. Ceil was an Elementary School Librarian in the Ithaca City School District, working in several elementary schools. In 1979 she became School Library Coordinator for the entire school district and supervised 13 school library programs, librarians, and the District Library Processing Center until she retired in 1986. Always involved in volunteer work in Tompkins County, Ceil worked with the League of Women Voters, Delta Kappa Gamma, Family and Children's Service, and the Tompkins County Public Library Foundation. She was a member of the Unitarian Church of Ithaca. She and Jim became residents of Kendal at Ithaca in 1996. Ceil joined the Kendal Library Committee before Kendal opened, using her expertise to help set up the library, and she chaired the committee for many years. She also participated actively in the Dance and History Committees. Jim and Ceil received two significant awards: In 2009, Family and Children's Service named the Spero Family Fund for Child Psychiatry to honor them for their loyal and dedicated support in advancing mental health initiatives, especially in children's mental health and psychiatry. In 2010 Jim and Ceil were chosen as Philanthropists of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, NY Finger Lakes Chapter. They were also longtime supporters of the Hangar Theatre, Tompkins County Public Library, Cayuga Medical Center, and Family and Children's Service and other human services in Tompkins County. They made significant gifts that transformed services and lives. Ceil will be remembered for her warm generosity, love of reading, dancing, and theatre, and joy in spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Jim, she is predeceased by her daughter Jean Spero and her sister Herma Shore. She is survived by her children Bette Spero (Daryl Rasuli) of Buffalo, NY, Donald Spero (Julie Cooper) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, and Nancy Spero (Rob Sullivan) of Ithaca, NY, her grandchildren Susannah Spero and Samuel Spero, her sister-in-law Miriam Spero, and many loving nieces, nephews, and special friends. There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life at Kendal at Ithaca on Monday, August 1, at 3:30 pm. Spicer Sr., B. James  
Spicer, Sr., B. James B. James Spicer Sr., formerly of Trumansburg, passed away at home in Freeville on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the age of 87. Born on July 1, 1929, James was a son of the late Dewitt B. and Katherine E. (Wells) Spicer. After honorably serving his country in the Air Force, James became a baker for Home Dairy in Ithaca, where he was employed for almost 35 years, and then continued working part time at other local bakeries. While he enjoyed gardening and playing Santa Claus, James' main hobby was re-building and refurbishing vintage erector sets as a proud member of the AC Gilbert Erector Society. James is survived by his children, Douglas (Bonnie Holbrook) Spicer, Bruce Spicer, James (Mary) Spicer, Scott (Cheryl) Spicer, Linda (Dan) Hust, Debra (Jim) Thompson, Susan (Roger Cotrofeld) Spicer, Constance (Del) Runyon, Christine (Tom) Manheim; his son-in-law, Joe Wikoff; 21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; his brother Adam Spicer and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Spicer, and his daughter, Michele Wikoff, and by his sister, Mabel Chase. In keeping with James' wishes, services will be private for the family. Turo, R. Michael "Gunny"  
Turo, R. Michael "Gunny" R. Michael "Gunny" Turo, 65, of Lansing, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Michael was born September 18, 1950 in Waterloo, a son of the late Richard B. "Mickey" and Ruth N. (Mayo) Turo. Mike was a life-long resident of the King Ferry area, and was formerly employed as a long distance truck driver. "Gunny" was a US Marine Corps veteran and had served in Vietnam. He enjoyed rifle competition with the Marine Corps leagues and was an avid deer and goose hunter, and loved riding his Harley-Davidson. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen (Lovelace) Turo, his three children, Lisa Lee Turo Simolo (Leonard Clay) of Geneva, Alecia Lee Auble (Brandon) of Ithaca, and Christopher Michael Turo of Ithaca, step-daughter, Clarice Burgman (Michael) of King Ferry, eight grandchildren, brother, Paul Turo (Val) of Ithaca, sister, Vicki Sheils (Daniel) of Genoa, sister-in-law, Claudette Turo of Genoa, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stephen "Reno" Turo. Funeral services will held at 11:00 am, Monday (July 25), at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, Genoa, with Rev. David Quigley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 10117 Route 90, Genoa, on Sunday from 4 to 6 pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Tompkins County SPCA.
