Ithaca: Gayle Lynn Stamas, 51, of Ithaca, died peacefully Sunday, October 7, 2012, surrounded by her family at Cayuga Medical Center. Born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Gayle is survived by her father, Spelios "Spike" Stamas; her mother and step-father, Constance and Ted Merritt; her brother, Ted Stamas; her sister and best friend, Beth and brother-in-law, Rick Hardesty; nephew, Charlie Stanton, Jr.; step-nephews, Paul and Christopher Hardesty; and step-brother, Tim (Kelly) Merritt. She is also survived by her step-sister, Deanna Holland; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Gayle graduated from Ithaca High School and Wells College. She loved music, learned to play the guitar and played in a band. She traveled widely, but often returned to Ithaca to visit. She started her own bookkeeping business and settled in Florida. Her illness brought her back to Ithaca to be with her family and friends. Gayle's family would like to express its gratitude to the office and staff of Dr. Joan Newell as well as the staff of Cayuga Medical Center for their outstanding care and support. In keeping with Gayle's wishes, no public services or called hours have been scheduled. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Tompkins County, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850 or to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850. The family is being assisted by the Wagner Funeral Home.
