James J. Varricchio, 75, of Ithaca died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Robert Packer Hospital after a brief illness. James was born in the Bronx and was a graduate of TC3 and held a degree from Empire State College and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Hornet. He was a retired New York State Trooper with Troop C, former Ithaca City Police Commissioner, owner of the Pine Tavern in Ithaca, was employed by the Ithaca City School District, and was currently serving as an Enfield Town Justice. James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Steffy Varricchio; siblings Helene Varricchio, Richard Varricchio and Mary Ann Brennen; sons Scott (Allison) Varricchio, Patrick Varricchio, Shane (Alexa) Varricchio and Luis (Melanie) Varricchio; grandchildren Danielle, Justin, Sarah, Isabella, Griffin, Lilly, Allie, Bobby and Ashley. James was predeceased by his parents, his brother Carmine and his daughter Stefanie. Friends may call on Tuesday, December 18 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Herson Funeral Home, 110 South Geneva St. in Ithaca. A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Wednesday, December 19 at the Saint James the Apostle Church on Whig St. in Trumansburg. Burial will follow in Frear Memorial Park.
