Hall, Martha Alice
Martha Alice Hall, 81, of Ithaca, NY has gone on to her reward on the 31st of May, 2014. Mrs. Hall was born on the 27th of June, 1932 in Daphne, AL to Fredrick and Viola Johnson. A longtime member of the historic St. James AME Zion Church of Ithaca, NY, Mrs. Hall drew strength from her belief in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; her family and scripture; and particularly Psalms 23:4: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Mrs. Hall took immense pride from her work for over thirty years at Tompkins County Hospital (now Cayuga Medical Center) as a nurse in the Pediatric and Intensive Care Units. She was also very active in her community: Mrs. Hall was a past President and member of the American Legion Post 1695; Member of the Daughters of The Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World (I. B. P.O.E. of W.,) Cayuga Temple #54 of Ithaca; the I. B. P.O.E. of W. Elizabeth Kimbaugh Council of Central New York, and the I. B. P.O.E. of W. New York State Association Auxiliary, where she held a "State Designation Degree", Queen of South & Amaranth Arid member-in-good-standing Dorianthia Chapter #19 of the Eureka Grand Chapter Prince Hall Order Eastern Star Incorporated of the State of New York; Member of the Southern Tier Good Sams Club, Raccoon Cruisers R/V Club, Club Enterprise, Club Essence, The Knights of Endeavor (T.K.E) and as a board member for the Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services. Mrs. Hall was also a world traveler. She particularly enjoyed spending many hours on the road in her R/V with her husband Hugh and grandchildren. Mrs. Hall also found great joy in her garden, spending countless hours tending and teaching many people the craft that had been handed down to her through her family. Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Mr. Hugh W. Hall of Ithaca, NY; their children Hugh F. Hall; Malia Hall; Marie Hall; grandchildren Cori Hall, Michael Garcia, Mikel Moss, Branden and Elliott Newby, Ethan, Leean and Austin Hall, Willie Rowls and her great granddaughters, Ginelle and Mckenna; her nephew and niece Patrick Hall and Kate Murray; her great-niece Mahalia Hall-Harvey; her great-nephews Cassius and Kenai Hall; her siblings: Robert & Fredrick Johnson, Arlene Hamilton, Willie Mae Lett, Marion, Michael and Lois Johnson, Libby Hall (in-law) and a host of other nieces, nephews, extended family and longtime friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at The Herson Wagner Funeral Home, 110 S. Geneva St., on Thursday, June 5 from 5-7PM. Mrs. Hall will be laid to rest in Daphne, AL later this month. Daphne services will be provided by Small's Mortuary, Inc.
