Troy Matthew Whittemore, a lifelong resident of Ithaca, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the age of 23. Born in Ithaca on June 28, 1990, Troy was the son of Matthew Whittemore and Jodie Meyers. After graduating from Ithaca High School in 2008, Troy attended Tompkins Cortland Community College and received his AS degree in Criminal Justice in 2010. In the Fall of 2010, Troy was admitted to SUNY Cortland and began work toward his BS, and even though he encountered obstacles he never stopped pursuing his degree. Troy was inducted into the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society in 2013. Troy's lifelong goal was to be a NYS Trooper. Troy is survived by his loving brother, Trevar Max, who will greatly miss Troy's presence, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins and many very special friends. Troy will be welcomed to heaven by his Grammy (Shirley Meyers), Papa (Roland Meyers) and grandmother (Beverly Brooks), his great grandmothers and very special friends, Dick and Fran Ramin, whose family continued to play such a special part in his life after their death. It is of great comfort to our family to know that Troy will be reunited with his best friend, Christopher Bordoni, who he missed so much since his untimely death in 2012 after being wounded in Afghanistan while serving as a United States Marine. Troy had the good fortune to work with the Cornell Police as a member of its Auxiliary Police and part-time for two summers at Bolton Point in Lansing where he made some very special friends. Golf was truly a passion of Troy's after being introduced to the game through a summer camp program at a local golf course when he was twelve. Troy was a member of the Ithaca High School and TC3 golf teams. Troy was also an avid hunter and enjoyed shooting any and all types of guns. Troy was a very special young man and good friend to all who knew him. His family and friends were an important part of his life and you could always count on him to make you laugh. We were blessed to have him in our life, but are deeply saddened by his passing at such an early age, with so many things left he wanted to experience. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 2:00PM at the Danby Federated Church, 1859 Danby Road, Danby NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a scholarship fund which will be set up in memory of Troy at Ithaca High School.
