Burton, James R.

James R. Burton, 57, surrounded by his family, passed away on April 15, 2013 after a valiant fight against esophageal cancer. He was surrounded throughout his illness by the love and support of his beloved family and friends. Jim was born January 20, 1956 to Donald and Doris Burton in Cobleskill, NY. After graduating from Cobleskill High School in 1974, he joined the United States Army serving on active duty from 1974 to 1977 and inactive reserve until 1980 when he was honorably discharged. Jim married the love of his life Gail (Madden) August 18, 1979. Together they were longtime residents of Dryden, NY where he was a past member of the Dryden Sertoma Club. Jim was employed for over 20 years with Beckman Coulter as a field service engineer before joining Advion Biosciences in Ithaca, NY. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and will be sorely missed by his riding buddies. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Donald, and is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Gail; daughters, Sarah (Jeff) Flynn of Philadelphia, PA and Dana Burton of Ithaca, NY; his mother, Doris Burton; sister, Donna Burton; and many relatives and close family friends, all of whom gave him their unconditional support and love, especially during his final months. The family will be present to receive family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, April 19, 2013 at Wagner Funeral Home, 110 S Geneva Street, in Ithaca. A Memorial Service in celebration of Jim's life will also be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Wagner Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing to remember Jim to consider a gift in his memory to the James P.
