Dryden: Joseph D. Fitzgibbons, age 48, of 27 South St., Dryden, NY died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Cortland Memorial Hospital after becoming ill at home. Born, September 25, 1964, he was the son of Jean Hart Fitzgibbons of Dryden and the late William Patrick Fitzgibbons. Joe was graduated from Dryden High School in 1983 and was retired from the maintenance department of the New York State Armory. Joe was an avid sports fan who followed the Cornell Hockey team, the Boston Celtics and worshiped the New York Yankees. He was conversant in many details of each team. Joe enjoyed many trips with his family and had visited England, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, The Netherlands and Russia as well as many US locations. He was well know by many Drydenites and loved to visit his friends and "weigh in" and/or offer his opinion on the various aspects of life. Prior to a disabling condition he was an avid bicyclist. Joe was a communicant of Holy Cross Church and will be remembered for his generosity, his candid nature and being a friend to so many people. Joe was loved by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his mother, Jean Fitzgibbons; his siblings, Kathleen F. (Brad) Perkins of Dryden, Patrick (Barbara) Fitzgibbons of Newark Valley, Michael J. (Sue) Fitzgibbons of Groton and Thomas (Lorraine) Fitzgibbons of Freeville; an aunt and uncle, Mary (Edward) Sobotka and an aunt Molly Raab; nieces and nephews, Daniel, Devin and Kate Perkins, Erin, John, Sean and Brennan Fitzgibbons; many cousins, and a world of friends. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother, John J. Fitzgibbons.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM, Monday, March 18, 2013 at Holy Cross Church, 375 George Road, Freeville, NY. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 5 PM, Sunday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are directed to the Dryden Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 397, Dryden, NY 13053-0397.
