Barlow, Joseph E.

Joseph E. Barlow, 46, of Clinton, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Gateway Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. to the service time at the church. Following the burial there will be a gathering at Jimmy John's - Clinton. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com Joseph Edward Barlow was born on September 2, 1967 in Waverly, NY the son of Hugh Joseph and Sue Anne (Neary) Barlow. He was a graduate of Spencer Van-Etten High School - Spencer, NY. Joseph served in the Army Reserves in high school and also served in the United States Navy during Desert Storm. Joseph was currently serving as a security guard with G4S Secure Solutions in Davenport. Joseph was a reading fanatic and especially enjoyed reading about his passion, war history. He enjoyed reenacting war strategy with toy soldiers. Joe was a humanitarian that knew no strangers. He would give you the shirt of his back. He was a selfless volunteer. He was a devoted member of Gateway Baptist Church. Joseph is survived by his mother, Sue Benninger of Ithaca, NY; and his siblings, Hugh Abram (Barbara) Barlow of Harlengen, TX, Anita Marie (Mark) Halterman of Anchorage, AK, Trudy (Howard) Gay of Virginia, Catherine Barlow of Ithaca, NY, Robert "Scott" (Heather) Barlow of Elmira, NY, Kevin Barlow of Grafton, NH and Peter Barlow of Ithaca, NY; and many nieces, nephews, a great niece and a great nephew. Joseph was preceded in death by his father. Memorials can be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the Clinton Humane Society.
