Joyce Fincher Coye, 87, of Jamesville passed away on May 16, 2013 in Syracuse. A memorial service will be held at the Jamesville Community Church on June 1 at 10 a.m. with a time of sharing to follow the service. Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., Syracuse are handling the funeral arrangements. Joyce was born in Ithaca to Myron and Evelyn Davis Fincher on November 25, 1925. She was a graduate or Ithaca High School and earned a B.A. in History from Cornell University. In 1951 she married Donald Coye and moved to Jamesville. She was active as a volunteer in many civic organizations in the Syracuse area including the 4-H, the Cub Scouts, the Literacy Volunteers, the Republican Party, and the Cornell Women's Group. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ithaca, the First Baptist Church of Syracuse, and the Jamesville Community Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was an avid horsewoman in her youth and worked on a ranch in Montana as a young woman. She was also an enthusiastic musician, played the bass violin in high school, enjoyed the piano throughout her life, and in her later years took up the guitar. She loved to sing. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald Coye of Jamesville; her sons, David of Phoenixville, PA, Dale (Bev) of Wilton, NH and Gary (Mary Ellen) of Syracuse; daughter Gwen of Jamesville; sisters, Esther Hays of Riverside, CA and Myra Fincher of Ithaca; granddaughter, Julianne Coye of Wilton, NH; and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jamesville Community Church, 6300 E. Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville, NY 13078.
