Bobby and kids, Debbie and Howie,
My mother, Bessie, my family, and I were so saddened to hear about Susie's passing. Although we were not close recently, I have many fond memories of her when my brothers and I were growing up in the Bronx. We loved visits to Whitestone to see Aunt Bess and family and loved the Passover Seders at Bubby and Poppys house.
Being much younger than Susie, I especially looked up to her as an older cousin.
I also remember a period that brought Bubby and myself even closer. Susie was living in Belgium. (Is that correct? going to school?) I don't remember exactly, but Susie wrote to Bubby on a regular basis. Bubby did not read English well, so I went upstairs to Bubby's and read her Susie's letters.
Bubby loved writing back to Susie. She would dictate to me, and I would transcribe Bubbys words directly on to letters to Susie, word for word, as Bubby spoke them, full of gramattical errors, writen as they were spoken- a true ESL experience.
I truly enjoyed reading Susie's letters, and spending this time with Bubby. Later, Susie told me how much she enjoyed receiving Bubby's letters, and how glad she was that I did not correct the language!
We are truly saddened to hear of Susies passing, and will keep many great memories of her.

My partner, Pat Wetzel, and I were fellow graduate students in linguistics with Susan and while I haven't seen her in many years, the brilliant smile in her picture above is unchanged and unmistakeable. Please accept our condolences. She was truly memorable.
