Thomas (Tom) Gray Obituary
Gray, Thomas (Tom)

Thomas (Tom) Walter Gray "Sir Thomas" (88) of Ithaca, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, January 28, 2014. Born July 31, 1925 in Ithaca, New York to the late Mitchell and Leah (Dobson) Gray. He is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Lena P. Gray. Tom is survived by his sons Thomas E. (Janet), Duane W. (Katherine) and their children Alex, Megan and Kasey, plus many nieces, nephews and close family friends. A veteran of WWII, Tom was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and the U. S. Army Reserves. Tom was an assembler at Morse Chain for 40 years retiring in 1987. He began his second career caring for his grandchildren with his wife Lena. Tom loved family vacations and road trips. He traveled to Nova Scotia, Disney World, 78th Division Army reunions in Europe and the United States, and the 1964, 1965 World Fairs. An avid history buff, Tom could recount in detail historic events especially those that took place in Great Britain. He was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of the Danby Federated Church. He played the piano and the organ at various churches including 1st Assembly of God, Etna Community Church and Danby Federated Church. He and Lena always had their home open to young people, often offering a place to stay. A familiar face at his sons' motocross races, he and Lena would carry tents, food and tools across the southern tier. His sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren were a very important part of his life, and he never missed an event, a concert, or an athletic event. Friends are invited to call at Herson Wagner Funeral Home, 110 South Geneva Street, Ithaca, New York on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Friends are also invited to attend a memorial service at Danby Federated Church, 1859 Danby Rd., Ithaca on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 10 am. A luncheon to follow. Burial will be delayed until spring. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Danby Federated Church in Tom's memory. He was dad, grandpa, uncle, mentor, and best friend. He made a positive impact on the lives of everyone he met from the neighborhood kids, church family, acquaintances, to the aides, nurses, and doctors who cared for him at Longview and Beechtree. Heaven is rejoicing, "Sir Thomas" is in the house!
