May, Ruth Ellen
It is with great celebration that Jesus welcomed home, on February 25th, his faithful servant Ruth Ellen May. She was born August 22, 1928 in Auburn, NY, daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret (Tallmadge) May. Her growing up years were spent in Ithaca, NY, where among other things she became an accomplished violinist. Ruth graduated from Wellesley College, and spent many years in the Canadian North as a Nurse Midwife. During this time she was invited by Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to pilot the outpost Nursing Program. She later received an honorary Doctorate from the same university. After her retirement in 1994, she continued to enjoy being part of a string quartet where she played violin. In 1997, she moved back to her beloved Ithaca where she became very involved in her fellowship Bethel Grove Bible Church, where she was a prayer warrior for and mentor to many. She joined the Ithaca Community Orchestra where she continued to enjoy the gift of music. Ruth was a giver of herself to so many, delighting in the time spent with family and friends, and in the care of others. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Alison (Trenholm) Margie (Pernell Goodyear); and grandchildren, Daniel, Claire, Samuel, Samantha, Lucas, and Jacob; niece, Joni (Rich Hubbard); nephew, Rex May; and seven great-nieces and nephews, and five great-great-nieces. She was predeceased by her niece, Patricia (Wayne Schwertzer) and brother, Dick May. Visitation to take place at Bethel Grove Bible Church, 1763 Slaterville Rd., in Ithaca on Thursday, February 27, from 4-7 p.m. Service to take place also at Bethel Grove on Friday, February 28, at 11 a.m., reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Second Wind Cottages. Checks payable to Community Faith Partnership.org, P.O. Box 47774, Ithaca, NY. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Bangs Funeral Home. We would like to express our extreme gratitude to those who showered us with care over the past days, especially mom's fabulous nurses and staff of 4 south at CMC, and Dr. Chenko.
