SEARS, GERALDINE ROSE

"For I know that my Redeemer liveth and that He shall stand at the later day upon the earth." Job 19:25 KJV

Geraldine Rose Sears, age 91, of Snyder Hill, Ithaca, NY, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Oak Hill Manor, Ithaca, NY. Geraldine was born February 23, 1923 at home in Dusenberry Hollow, Town of Dryden, a daughter of the late Everard S. and Susie L. Irvine Whittier. She was graduated from Dryden High School in 1939 and was married to Donald B. Sears on May 4th, 1940 and moved to Snyder Hill Road. During WWII, she worked for a short time at Allen-Wales in Ithaca. Geraldine was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great-great-grandmother. All of her children and grandchildren looked forward to her visits, cards, and letters which have provided so many wonderful memories. She was a hardworking homemaker while helping her husband on the farm and maintaining rental properties. Gardening, music, collecting antique dolls and stamps, genealogy, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and chair caning were just some of her many hobbies. She will be remembered for her delicious pies, baked goods, jams and an abundance of canned fruits and vegetables from her beautiful garden. Geraldine was a member of the Snyder Hill Baptist Church, and later joined the Bethel Grove Bible Church and most recently worshiped at the Brooktondale Baptist Church. She served the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher, AWANA leader, and flower arranger using flowers from her beautiful gardens. She faithfully entertained visiting Pastors and their families by whipping up delicious fried chicken and biscuit dinners on a minute's notice.

Geraldine is survived by her son, Calvin (Eva) of Puebla, Mexico; daughters, Janice (Donald) Railsback of Ithaca and Sylvia (Jeff) Sorenson of Mohawk, NY; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; sisters-in-law, Margaret Sears and Esther Joyce (Carson) Fremont. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald B. Sears; her siblings, Elwin, Cyrus and Ralph Whittier, Nora VanOrder, Lurline McMillen, Ivy Soyring and Julia Fowler. She was also predeceased by six half-brothers and sisters.

Although she will be greatly missed by her family and friends, they are comforted in knowing she is with her Lord and Savior. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Ps.116:15

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Perkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Snyder Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY.
