PROF. KENNETH E. TORRANCE
Our family is immensely saddened by the loss of Prof. Kenneth E. Torrance, age 69. He passed away suddenly on February 15, 2010.
Ken's greatest joy was spending time with his family: his wife of 48 years, Marcia; his brothers, Don and John; his sisters-in-law, Pat and Diane; his children, Charles, Deborah and Catherine; his daughter-in-law, Sheryl and son-in-law, Jason; and his grandchildren, Chelsea, Kyle, Ryan, Jenna, Marshall and Gracie. He was very proud of his family's accomplishments, and always had a big smile while watching his grandchildren in dance recitals, hockey, baseball and lacrosse games, school plays and concerts, and all their other activities. In recent years, Ken rekindled his passion for classic cars, and spent countless hours fine-tuning his '57 Chevy. We all enjoyed going for rides in his prized car. We will all miss his wisdom, kindness and thoughtfulness.
For 42 years, Ken, an internationally renowned Joseph C. Ford Professor of Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University, dedicated himself to research and to fostering his students' intellectual development in the fields of mechanical engineering, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, computer graphics, and many others. His numerous and significant contributions in advancing knowledge in these fields are a lasting legacy.
Join our family for a celebration of Ken's life at 11 a.m. on February 27, at the Statler ballroom on the Cornell campus, follow by a reception with light fare. There will be complimentary valet parking. In lieu of flowers, please provide a donation to the charity of your choice.
