William C. Dockstader, Sr. decided he had had enough with cancer and went to be with Jesus on April 3, 2013. "Doc", a native Ithacan, was born to Frank and Irma Dockstader on November 1, 1938. A very special woman in Bill's life was his mother-in-law, Martha Scott. The love and friendship that they shared, was more like mother and son. Bill is a graduate of Ithaca High School (1957). He served his country in the U S Navy for two years in Memphis, TN. While serving he met, who was to become the love of his life, a young beautiful women, his wife Mae. Bill returned to Ithaca and in 1963 he became one of Ithaca's finest, police officer for the Ithaca Police Department. Bill had faced many challenges in his years on IPD. From the Cornell Riots and the Willard Straight takeover in the 60's, a log truck accident in 1974 that almost ended his life, to visiting the local schools and becoming a real friend to the Ithaca Community. With many years of work and memories behind him, Bill retired in 1986. This past January 15, 2013 Bill and Mae celebrated 54 years of love together. In those many years God blessed them with six beautiful children. Bill had many grandchildren and great grandchildren that he adored. Bill enjoyed camping, bowling, vacations and so many other things with his family. Bill is survived by his brother Frank. A gathering in celebration of Bill's life will be at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. The Reverend Dr John McNeil will be officiating. In lieu of flowers please send your donation to Hospicare. Wagner Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
