Candor: Florence L. Roberts, 90, of Candor passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Florence was predeceased by her parents, Glenn and Maude Newman; infant daughters, Edna Louise and Rose Marie; sons-in-law, James "Duke" Dukerich, and Douglas E. Hall; sisters, Glenna Lee Newman, and Gladys Bakeman; brothers, Ralph and Ernest Newman; sisters-in-law, Ruth Roberts Cornell, and Millie Newman; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Bakeman, Lester Beebe, James P. Roberts, and Donald L. Roberts. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Edward Roberts; children, Lila Hall, Darlene (Rob) Howland, Cindy (Denny) Swartz, Vincent (Joan) Roberts, Marvin (Linda) Roberts, and Joseph Roberts; brothers, Cliff Newman, Karl Newman, and Gerald Newman; sister, Eleanor Newman; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Doane, Becky Newman; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Florence worked at Eclipsce in Elmira, was a homemaker, a cafeteria worker at the Candor Central School, and she retired as a teachers aid at Candor Elementary. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and being at the lake with her family. Florence and Edward enjoyed traveling after their retirement with a cruise to Alaska, a trip across the US, and trips to Hawaii, Holland, France, and Germany. She enjoyed wintering in Florida, volunteered as a 4-H leader for many years, and was an active member of the McKendree United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. Florence was a member of the Candor Grange #1466 for over 76 years. She was a very active member of the Candor Community where she generated the respect of the community and received a Citizen of the Year award. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 10:00 at McKendree United Methodist Church, 224 Owego Road, Candor with Rev. Michael Greunig and Pastor Jon Austin officiating with burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Family invites friends to call on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 6-8 PM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Candor. Memorial donations may be made in Florence's name to McKendree United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 224 Owego St., Candor, NY 13743.
