Drake, Edwin T., Jr.
Edwin T. Drake, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, September 2, 2013. Pop's was surrounded by his immediate family. Born in Ithaca, NY on December 6, 1924, Pop lead an adventurous life. As a youngster he loved his sea-scouts, graduated from Ithaca HS and then served proudly during World War II in the US Army Air Corps. He was an avid sportsman, passionate artist, creative genius and great lover of his entire family. Retiring from the Ithaca Journal after 42 years, he and his special love, Virginia, moved to Wilmington, NC, enjoying a new chapter of happiness and excitement. Due to illness Pop had to resettle under the loving caregiving of his stepson and daughter-in-law in Newfield, NY. His contagious smile, kind heart and precious charm will forever be etched in our hearts. Edwin was predeceased by his parents Edwin Drake Sr. and Francis Tyman McGonagall, sisters Betty Ann Griffin, Beverly L. Bush, brother Don Drake, nephew Donny Bill Drake, wife Louise and special love Virginia. Edwin is survived by his stepson Robert (Crystal) Clark, stepdaughter Betty Lou Rogers, sister-in-law Betty Drake, nephews William (Gail) H. Long V, Jeffery Bush, Holly Gordon, Betsy Bush, Jaime Bush, Leland (Barbara) Griffin, Robert (Bonnie) Griffin, Gary Griffin, Melvin (Sandy) Griffin, David (Lynn Ann) Griffin, niece, Barbara Drake, grandchildren Benjamin Clark, Joseph Clark, Gail Simpson, Vicky Heidel, Randy Robins and beautiful great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Edwin will be held Thursday, September 19 at 11:00 am at the Newfield Methodist Church, Main Street Newfield. Rev. Robert Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Ithaca New Life Victory Center Church - Uganda Mission (PO Box 4921, Ithaca NY 14852).
