June, Alfred F., Sr.

Age 93

11/03/1920 - 04/26/2014

Alfred, born in Ithaca, the son of Fredrick June and Margaret Boom, was called home to God on Saturday, April 26, to join his wife Freida who predeceased him in 2005. Alfred was an Ithaca High School graduate class of 1940, and married his wife Freida A. Fish October 23, 1945. They had four children; Alfred Jr., Darryl, George and Terry. He was a gunner in the US Air Force and is a World War II veteran. His big passion is and always was baseball. He played for the Red Wings, and later fast-pitch softball for the BIMS. Ted Williams was his idol, and he was an avid Yankees fan! His other big passion was music from the Big Band Era, particularly Glenn Miller. Alfred also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling (and was a member of several leagues) golfing, and walking his dog, Teddy. He was employed at NCR for many years. Family was very important to Alfred and he made everyone feel important, special and loved. He was extremely proud of his family and extended family and let us know it all the time. He was the strongest person we knew, physically and mentally. He had a great sense of humor and always had us laughing. He had many amazing stories to tell us about his era and growing up. He is an amazing role model to us all! Alfred will be greatly missed and is loved by so many! He means the world to his family and is such a huge part of our lives! A big inspiration! We will carry on and live our lives like he would! Alfred was predeceased by his wife, Freida; two sons, George and Darryl; and a grandson, Jeffrey. He is survived by his son Alfred June, Jr. (Doris), and other son Terry Daniel (Butler); two sisters, Sandy Maxwell and Lucielle Hubble and youngest brother Ronnie June; his grandchildren, Christine June-Farrelly (Kevin), David June (Della), Kimberly June-Budd (Al), Pamela June, Cynthia June, Darryl Jr., and Angela June-Acla (Ansel); his great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Brandon, Melanie, Samantha, Aiden, Dylan, Alyssa, Kyra, Ryan, Madasyn, Hailey, Gaige, Shelby, Aksel, Austin, and Ashton along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 30, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Herson Wagner Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Lake View Cemetery in Ithaca with military honors. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospicare, 172 King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850. "It isn't goodbye, but we will see you later."
