Bird, John M. "Jack", age 85, passed away on April 27, 2017. Jack is survived by his wife of 34 years, Maura Weathers Bird, and his daughters, Anne Bird Sindermann (Maryland) and Marsha Bird (San Francisco). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew and Laura Sindermann, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Jack graduated from Union College in 1954 and then served in the US Army as a member of the Counter Intelligence Corps. He received his PhD in geology from RPI. I remember taking Professor Bird's Introduction to Geology class (Geology 107/108) -- colloquially known as "Rocks for Jocks" -- although I didn't fall into that category and the class was legitimately challenging. I remember he told us that he had discovered Plate Tectonic Theory. May he Rest In Peace.
