Melba L. Woelk, 91, died Monday (Sept. 10, 2018) at Bethesda Nursing Home, Goessel. She was born June 21, 1927, in Goessel, to Henry G. and Sarah (Enns) Unruh. She attended Pleasant Valley/North Bloomfield Grade School and was baptized May 20, 1945, at Alexanderwohl Church.
Melba was a homemaker and worked for Colonial House and Len and Flo café. She was a member of Goessel Mennonite Church, Goessel Sewing Circle, taught Sunday School and enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, crocheting, gardening, canning and making baby quilts for MCC.
On April 30, 1947, she married Eldon Woelk in Goessel. They shared 71 years of marriage.
Melba is survived by husband, Eldon of Goessel; daughters, Jan Yartz and husband Ken, and Eileen Stoddard, all of Newton; grandsons, Nate Yartz and wife Stephanie of Olathe and Jeremy Janzen and wife Christina of Newton; great-grandchildren, Sara and Brock Stiles, and Bree Janzen; brothers, Lavern H. Unruh and wife Dorothy of Goessel, Harland Unruh and wife Oneta of Newton and Darrell Unruh and wife Judy of Goessel; and sister-in-law, Janice Unruh of Hesston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Marlow Unruh.
Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 13, 2018) at Goessel Mennonite Church Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 10 a.m. at Goessel Mennonite Church. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 12, 2018) at Bethesda Nursing Home.
Memorials may be made to Bethesda Nursing Home or Goessel Mennonite Church, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Goessel.
