John Bestvater Obituary
John Bestvater, 97, died on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the Bethesda Home in Goessel.

He was born in Harvey County, the son of Abraham H. Bestvater and Helena (Franz) Bestvater, on July 11, 1916. He was a member of the Alexanderwohl Church.

John was in the Army in World War II. He served his country for four years, four months and eight days.

He retired from the Standard Oil Company, after many years of service employed as an electrician and maintenance personnel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mavis; sisters, Christine Peters, Grace Kasitz, Mary Spencer, Unilda Moffatt, Betty Andrews and Martha Promenshenkel; and brother, Frank Bestvater.

Survivors include, son, Ralph and wife, Christine, Newton; grandsons, Tarl, Newton, Shawn and wife, Karmini, Malaysia, Indonesia, and great-grandson, Rohit Bestvater; family member, Sally Bestvater; sisters, Mildred Riekenberg, Salina; brother, Henry and wife, Virginia Bestvater, Newton; and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, from 1 to 8 p.m., with the family greeting from 3 to 4 p.m.

Graveside service will be on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Highland Cemetery, in rural Newton.

Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
