Richard Prouty Obituary

Richard Lewis Prouty, 52, died Sunday (Oct. 30, 2016) in rural Moundridge.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1963, in Newton, the son of Theodore Earl and Phyllis Lefort Prouty. Richard was raised and attended schools in Hesston. He was very active in FFA and enjoyed auto mechanics. He graduated from Hesston High School in 1982.

Richard joined his brothers working for their father in Prouty Truck Lines. For many years, Richard traveled across the country for their family "farm to market" business. Shortly after his dad Ted's death in 2009, the business was sold.

For the past few years, Richard has been a wonderful caretaker to his mother and grandmother. From taking them on their daily errands to making sure they had some recreational fun, Richard was devoted.

Richard never met a stranger, he enjoyed visiting with people on his travels throughout life. He was very caring and helpful to those in need.

He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton.

Survivors include his mother Phyllis Prouty of the home in Hesston; brothers Rick of Hesston and Ted "Butch" Jr. and his wife Dee of Sedgwick; sisters Lisa Schmidt and her husband Kevin of Sedgwick, and Maggie Smet and her husband Craig of Newton; grandmother Marceline Lefort of Garden City; 16 nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by his father Ted; and grandparents A.R. Lefort, Wilbur and Wilhemina Prouty.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 3, 2016) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday (Nov. 4, 2016) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Caring Hands Humane Society or St. Mary's School Chapel fund. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.

Rest in peace Richard as you are home peacefully with our Lord. I am certain that when God bestowed you with your wings that He knows you will be your family's guardian angel from above still providing them your care and love. I pray for God to wrap His loving and comforting arms around each and every one of your family and friends providing them with love, comfort, peace, and mercy as they adjust to this life on earth without your physical presence. I know you will be with them always and also to us that knew your kind spirit and gentleness. I am certain you are missed by many. You were always so very kind to me and I will never forget you.
