William Waters Obituary

William Charles "Chuck" Waters, 74, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Oklahoma City.

A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan on April 15, 2017, at 1 p.m.

Chuck graduated from Marlow High School, the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and received the Hospital Administration certification from the University of Minnesota. He also served in the Army Reserves. Charles married Susan Warren on Jan. 23, 1965, in Marlow, Oklahoma.

Charles enjoyed his almost 40-year career in hospital administration. He began his career at Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton in 1972. After seeing a duplication of medical services because of the two hospitals in the city, he managed to merge the hospitals. Shortly thereafter, he and the board of directors, the doctors and the community built Newton Medical Center. He served in Newton for 31 years. He then moved to Ponca City, where he was the CEO of Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center for four years. After Via Christi sold the hospital, he spent the last four years of his career in Hoisington, as the CEO of Clara Barton Hospital. He loved every hospital and every employee dearly. He was awarded many outstanding honors by the Kansas Hospital Association, but what meant the most to him was the people he worked with and the service they together provided. He truly loved his career and his family. He was a member of the Cherokee Nation and the First Nazarene Church of Wichita.

He enjoyed playing golf and watching sports of all kinds.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan; his daughter, Stacy Dickerson and husband Scott, of Wichita; his sister, Kay Gatlin and husband Ric, of Marlow, Oklahoma; his brother-in-law, Bill Warren and wife Karen, of Cleveland, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Deane Waters.

Memorial contributions can be made in Chuck's name to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or in care of Whitt Funeral Home, 3720 N. Highway 81, Duncan, OK 73533.

Chuck was a great friend and extremely capable administrator. He was instrumental in the combining of two hospitals into the present Newton Medical Center, which continues to be a tribute to his skill in bringing a community together. As a physician I always felt he treated me fairly and was easy to deal with. This is truly a loss to our medical community.

Mr. Waters was such a very kind and sincere person. He would always smile and ask about my day at NMC. I am honored to have had him as my CEO.

The Newton Medical Center Administration, Medical Staff, and Staff extend our deepest condolences to Susan and all the family. Today we honor a great leader in the history of this hospital through our remembrances and kind thoughts and we have the full realization that we stand today to protect and defend the very hospital that Mr. Chuck Waters worked so hard to create. God Bless You, Chuck, for your vision, perseverance, and steadfastness and for your service to the persons that NMC continues to serve to this day. What a wonderful legacy you have left for us. Sincerely, Val Gleason, President and CEO, Newton Medical Center
