Elda Kaufman Obituary
Elda Kaufman, at age 99, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 22, 2014, surrounded by family at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Murdock, to John J. Kaufman and Anna (Ratzlaff) Kaufman. She was an active longtime member of Eden Mennonite Church, near Moundridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Kaufman; brothers, Ed (Esther), Jake (Helen), Wilbert (Opal) and Marvin (Elsie); and sisters, Bertha, Martha, Hulda (Jonah) and Marie.

She is survived by nieces and nephews and great plus great-great-nieces and nephews. Delores (Kaufman) Ungles.

Elda grew up in a family of nine children at the Alta Mills, near Moundridge. There her father had a blacksmith shop along with farming. During her years there she worked on the farm, gardened, and worked for various families in the area, helping out wherever was needed, and at the local country store. She moved to Newton, where she worked at Hurst Food Products. She loved to garden, bake and cook for big family gatherings, go to garage sales, fish, and read her Bible. During the winter months, Elda and her sisters used to crochet, make baby quilts, pillows and clothes.

Her faith was very important to her and she always enjoyed talking about the Lord and the Bible. Elda was very musically talented, much like all of her sisters. It was common practice for them to play their musical instruments and sing for the family on Sunday afternoons inside or out on their porch.

Elda enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking and maintaining her home until the last week when she was admitted to the hospital. She always cared more about others then herself. She, also, enjoyed walking to the Dollar Store with Irma (niece) and going to Meridian Grocery (or as she called it "The Little Store").

She was an inspiration to all who met or heard about her.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 25, at the Eden Mennonite Church in Moundridge.
