Mrs. Ruth Marie Mackey Hammond, 95, widow of James Codelle Hammond, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 31, 1917, in Lancaster County and was a daughter of the late William Perry Mackey and Mary Adaline Small Mackey.
Mrs. Hammond was a member of Rich Hill Baptist Church, where she a GA leader, YWA leader, member of the WMU and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Golden Agers and was a resident of the Lancaster Convalescent Center.
Mrs. Hammond is survived by three sons, Jimmy Hammond of North Myrtle Beach, Phillip Hammond and his wife, Tammy, of Lancaster and Stevie Hammond and his wife, Peggy, of Heath Springs; two daughters, Mary Delle Knight and her husband, Jerry, of Lancaster and Beverly Hovis and her husband, Kirk, of Heath Springs; a sister, Martha Craig of Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hammond of Heath Springs.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harry Hammond.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hammond are 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Rich Hill Baptist Church, officiated by the Revs. Rod Yow and Thurmond Johnson, with burial in the Rich Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the family life center and other times at the home of Jerry and Mary Delle Knight, 2307 Tribal Road.
