She was born in Hickory Grove, a daughter of the late John Smith Wilkerson and Elma Merritt Wilkerson and was the widow of Robert Paul Perry Sr. A graduate of Winthrop College, Mrs. Perry moved to Lancaster to accept a home economics and science teaching position at Lancaster High School.
