Benjamin Goodwin


Funeral service for Benjamin James "B.J." Goodwin, 88, of 1606 Goodwin-Jenkins Lane, in Camden was held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at St. John Baptist Church, 1315 Springhill Road, Camden, with burial in the Goodwin family cemetery. Collins Funeral in Camden was in charge of the arrangements.
Benjamin, known fondly as "B.J." to his family and friends, attended the public schools of Kershaw County. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Morris College and a master's degree from South Carolina State University. He did additional graduate work at Peabody College and the University of South Carolina. B.J. began his teaching career at Hillside High School in Lancaster County and later moved to Kershaw County, where he taught at Mount Pisgah and North Central high schools.
Surviving are two brothers, John Goodwin of Camden and Melvin Goodwin (Beatrice) of Philadelphia; four sisters, Maggie Hector of Camden, Cecelia Richardson of Florence, Frances Weldon (Paul) of Columbia and Daisy James (Andrew) of Camden; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Collins Funeral Home of Camden is in charge.
