Charles R. Ford

COLUMBUS, N.C. – Charles R. Ford, age 83, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at LaurelWoods Assisted Living in Columbus, N.C.
Mr. Ford retired from Duff Norton Company in Charlotte. For more than 30 years, he and his wife owned and operated several businesses in Chimney Rock, N.C., most notably Ford's Restaurant and Ice Cream. He was a member of Chimney Rock Baptist Church and Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Rutherfordton, N.C. Charles was a son of the late Noah E. and Mary Moffitt Ford. He lived in Charlotte, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, N.C. and Lancaster.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Shirley Massey Ford; one daughter, Ann Green, and her husband, Rosco, of Saluda, N.C.; one brother, Bill Ford of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Sarah Dixon and Lucy Bradley, both of Gastonia, N.C.; and one granddaughter, Roanna Green.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, at McMahan's Funeral Home in Rutherfordton. The funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Ford is 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the chapel of McMahan's Funeral Home, with the Revs. Gene Daggerhart and Alan Stegall officiating. Burial will follow at Rutherfordton City Cemetery.
