LANCASTER – Mr. James Melvin Jordan Sr., 92, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, Jan.16, 2013, at his home.
He was born Oct. 23, 1920, in the Buffalo community of Kershaw County, a son of the late William Gus and Minnie Moseley Jordan. Mr. Jordan attended Baron DeKalb High School and was employed by the Lancaster Telephone Co. for 44 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, American Legion, CC Camp, Pioneer Club and the First ARP Church.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Jordan will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at First ARP Church, with the Rev. Dr. Kyle Sims and David Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Ella Fudge Jordan; his brother, William Jordan of Rock Hill; his sister, Dot Gray of Charlotte; his daughter, Lauren Victoria Edwards of Lancaster; his sons, James Melvin Jordan Jr. of Great Falls, Neil Jordan of Denver, N.C., and Bryan Franklin Jordan and his wife, Karola of Beersheba, Israel; grandchildren, Jennifer Hall, Evelyn Ray, Jamie Jordan, Elizabeth Jordan, Margarita Cudd, Victor Edwards, Daniel Jordan, Jessica Jordan and Christopher Jordan; nine great-grandchildren; and his caregiver, Phyllis Elliott.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Frank Jordan, Jack Smith, Addie Mae McElroy, Faye Hallman; and his first wife, Martha Lois Dallas Jordan.
The family wishes to thank Karen Barnes, Michelle Clark, Catina Duncan, Gwin Jackson and Sandy Stroud for their loving and kind care during Melvin's illness.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 18, at Lancaster Funeral Home.
