Mr. James Samuel "Sammy" Chamberlain, 78, of Lancaster passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Edgefield, a son of the late Charles Norton Chamberlain and Clara Morgan Thomasson and stepson of the late James W. Thomasson.
Mr. Chamberlain was a 50 year member of Camp Creek United Methodist Church where he had served as a choir member, trustee, Sunday school teacher, and had been a member of the administrative committee, finance committee, building committee, the senior citizens and had served in various other capacities.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Chamberlain is 3 p.m. today, April 6, 2014 at Camp Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Catoe officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mr. Chamberlain is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Blalock Chamberlain; a son, James Gregory "Greg" Chamberlain of Charlotte; a sister, Jane T. Morgan and her husband, Ted, of West Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norton Chamberlain; and a stepbrother, Ronald Thomasson.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home of Beulah Broughton, 3114 Oakland Drive, Lancaster.
