WAXHAW, N.C. – Richard Leroy Jones, 70, of Waxhaw, N.C., passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014.

Born Aug.10, 1943, in Alpharetta, Ga., he was the son of the late Sherman Lewis and Onnie Mae Gibson Jones. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army and started his career in Lancaster as a fireman. He then moved to Texas, where he pursued a career in construction and furthered it by starting a business as Richard Jones Construction. Richard was a devoted Mason for 43 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sara Ann Jones; two sons, Ricky (Kris) Beasley and Richie (Kim) Jones; a daughter, Sherry (Phil) Shealy; a daughter-in-law, Gale Jones; a sister, Shirley (Cecil) Alford; seven grandchildren, Grant Funderburk, Ivey (Brian) Homer, Beth (Justin) Rollins, Danielle (Kyle) Bauer, Chad Beasley, Stephen Jones and Jordanne Jones; three great-grandchildren, Jack and Ryan Bauer and Paxton Rollins.
Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Steve Jones; and his four brothers.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, at McLean Funeral Directors - Mahaffey Chapel, 201 N. Catawba St., Lancaster.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Oscar Thomas officiating. A graveside service followed at Lancaster Memorial Park.
