COWPENS – Barbara Wellman Ervin, 77, of Cowpen, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at her home.
She was born July 25, 1940, in York County.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Huffman Wellman & Edith Sain Wellman; and her daughter, Catherine Ervin Overstreet.
In addition to her son, David Ervin Jr. of Cowpens; her daughter, Tiffany Ervin of Flat Rock, N.C.; her sisters, Robbie Yarborough (Sammy) of Lancaster and Betty Moore (Banks) of Indian Land; and her brother, James "Dickie" Wellman (Barbara) of Clinton. Barbara was proud to be "Nanny" to her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.
A graduate of Indian Land High School, Barbara retired from Progress Lighting in Cowpens after more than 26 years. She was a member of the Garden Club and Salem United Methodist Church. She volunteered for many years with the Miss America Organization on both the local and state level and enjoyed sharing her vocal talents with others as a soloist for churches and special events.
A graveside service was 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in Belair United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. David F. Ervin Sr. officiating.
The family received friends from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Salem United Methodist Church of Cowpens, immediately followed by a memorial service at 4:30 p.m., with the Revs. David F. Ervin, Sr. and Dustin R. Madala officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust) and mailed to 17 Ches Drive, Franklin, NC 28734.
